The MPU-6050 is a good chip, it's just a good as any other normal accel+gyro sensor, maybe better.

There is also a link with schematic somewhere on that page of the GY-521.
I noticed new modules on Ebay. There have a different layout than the GY-521, but still have the voltage regulator and same pins.
