GY-521/MPU6050 orientation wrong

I have a gy-521 sensor, I am trying to get the orientation of the sensor, but it seems only to sense change in orientation or angular acceleration.

Is the MPU6050/gy-521 only supposed to sense acceleration of all kinds (normal and angular) and not orientation. Or is there something I am missing.
