Vin is usually the pin that takes a voltage higher than 3.3V and converts it to 3.3V.

Which board do you have exactly? The 1st or the 3rd one on ESP8266 Pinout Reference: Which GPIO pins should you use? | Random Nerd Tutorials? Or even another one?
