Gyroscope light up hand? (cosplay prop help)

I'm working on a costume prop where there are some lights in the palm of my hand, and I wanted to add a gyroscope or something to it so that when I turn my hand over (palm facing up) the lights on my hand will brighten.

I'm not sure how the best way to do this is, or what I'll need to do it.
I also like to use smaller boards for this, like a trinket or something (it's the only one I've used so far)

I think that an accelerometer would be better for that than a gyro. With an accel you always have gravity for a "down reference". A gyro has no such reference. There is lots of information, on the web, about mesuring tilt with an accel (alone or in combination with a gyro).

Thanks that gives me a bit more to go on!

so far I'm thinking of going with a Adafruit LIS3DH Triple-Axis Accelerometer

I'm also planning to use a NeoPixel Ring and 4 RGB NeoPixels.
I'm just not sure what board would work best with all of these. Would an Adafruit Pro Trinket work best? or something else?

Hi,
