Hacking a Carlton Cards Recordable Greeting Card

Hey All,

I'm a relative newbie to programming and circuitry but I want to teach my 7th and 8th grade students how to hack recordable greeting cards and incorporate them into e-textiles using the LilyPad Arduino. I'm having some trouble with the hacking of the circuitry (a short circuit seems to trigger playback?) and with writing the code. Can anyone help me with step-by-step guidance?

Doubt you can do much - the ones I've seen have a blob of goo over the chip that actually does the playback, no info available.
You just want to install a transistor that the Arduino can trigger to start the playback?
