Hacking CogniStix Neural Network USB device

I recently purchased a CogniStix USB stick from Cognimem (a former subsidiary of General Vision).

I want to incorporate the stick into Arduino for autonomous robotics (it allows parallel implementation of a neural network with 1024 neurons and 262,144 synapses -- much more powerful than Intel Arduino 101).

Problem: although the company stated that they would release CogniStix Arduino examples and libraries in 2015, they never did.

The circuitry on the stick's board is pretty simple -- the CM1k neuron chip is connected to an ARM CORTEX M3 which is connected to a FTDI I2C/Parallel to USB 2.0 chip.

The stick came with a full C++ library for Windows and works great (on Windows). I would like to recycle as much code as possible while eliminating Windows dependencies and DLL functions.

If anyone has had similar experience or problems with interfacing FTDI usb devices or the CM1k chip, please get in touch
