Have you considered Hall sensors? 
Seriously, what are the requirements in more detail?
Students carrying a pass can use the halls within certain time slots, otherwise an alarm/alert sounds?
To move around the halls, would locked doors prevent movement to anyone without a pass?
Must the passes be detected remotely as the student passes through unlocked doorways?
