Handling Superfine Copper Wire

Hi All,

I am currently awaiting a shipment of AWG 56 superfine enamelled copper wire with an overall diameter of 0.014mm :o

I'm building a custom coil winder, which will feed the wire through a polished corrundum bearing to minimise friction, but was wondering if anyone else has ever handled anything this fine?

Any tips or experiences? No doubt it will be quite the learning experience!

Not with that fine of wire. But, the key to coil winding is maintaining consistent tension on the wire.

Thanks for the reply! I will keep this in mind. I’ve seen a lot of professional machines keeping tension using a kind of spring lever mechanism that pulls the feed high then low. I think there will be some trial and error… it’s crazy that this stuff has so many great uses but I can only find one YouTube video of someone experimenting with it.
