Have you built a Stiquito?

I’m planning on buying a book with the kit. Which one do you suggest? How good is it?

I have not used these, but Muscle Wires sounds like they have a lot of potential though their amazon review suggests otherwise. Stiquito has great reviews.

If you are primarily interested in making a crawler, there is a chapter in “JunkBots, Bugbots, and Bots on Wheels” and there is a video on Parallax’s site demonstrating the crawling action with their bots.

There are two big problems with muscle wire that I am aware of:

  1. Huge amount of current needed to activate them.
  2. Applying the current causes the shape-change quickly, but return to original shape is much slower - even with forced cooling of the wire.

These together tend to limit the usage of the wire. Of course, this is based on information circa the time period of the Stiquito; I haven’t heard if maybe another form of the wire has been produced since that time that has more favorable attributes…

Well I’ve ordered the project book with a deluxe kit $60… looked interesting and different to me… will see what its in hand…but i got to wait for 2-3 weeks for it to come…
