Having problems translating numerical data into Character values on LCD screen.

so if the frequency is 294 (D4) than the index value would be (1,3) ?

 frecNoteArray[7]=[C D E F G A B];

frecOctaveNum[7]=[1 2 3 4 5 6 7];

Why don't you substitute the ASCII values for the element in these arrays and send those ?
