HC-05 Unable to upload sketch while connected

Hi,

I've run into a problem using the HC-05 bluetooth module, I cant upload a sktech while the module is powered on, i have to remove the 3.3v/5v wire upload the sketch and then reconnect it!

Any help would be appricated

Jonny

That's normal, it is connected to pins 0 and 1, which are used for uploading new sketches. It must be disconnected while uploading.

To prevent damage to the HC-05, you should disconnect the data lines (0 and 1) - disconnecting the power while leaving the data lines connected, and then using the data lines for something will result in applying an external voltage to the device without powering it. This can damage many devices - I don't know if the HC-05 is specifically designed to handle this, but the vast majority of devices are not. Most datasheets specify that the voltage on IO pins can't exceed Vcc by more than a fraction of a volt - that part of the spec still applies when Vcc is 0!

Excellent! Thanks for the info.

If i have already uploaded a sketch with the 5v, Tx, Rx, and ground all connected - did i destroy my HC-05? It still lights up and i can still pair with it no problem, just wondering.

Thanks
