HC-SR04 Not working

Hi guys

My HC-SR04 distance sensor not working. I receive just zeros. It is possible to destroy it with swap echo and trig pin( I connnected trig pin as input instead of output and echo as output by mystake) ? because until i swapped pins everythings worked well . And I have some more questions ...
I have my sensor connected on +- 7 m cable should it make something wrong ?
My sensor is measuring water level from water tank and inside the water tank is quite enough warm and humid, should i change something because of speed of sound is different in here?

thanks

Not sure if you destroyed it but the cable can be a resistive issue try to get it thicker or as short as possible but the best most complicated solution would be to make it wireless with some cheap RF transmitors and if you are sure that you burned it you should buy a few more on ebay they are as as half a KG of bananas

Sound speed difference due to humidity (and/or temperature) is negligible for such short distances.
And I think neither the cable length nor pin swap can really destroy the sensor.

But humidity does it for sure!

I suggest you to change sensor type, and to let us help you please say something more than "a water tank". What kind of tank, what size, what material? Do you need a capacity measure or simply a level (low and/or high) alert?
For example, you could use a simple couple of wires as sensor, or try with an optical sensor..
