Heating an PCR via Arduino

Hi guys

i am working on an DIY PCR. I have on problem left. How do i heat the Alu block? I saw heatingpatrons or Peliter Elements. What are better? And what kind of extension board do i need?

This are my parts so far:

  1. https://www.amazon.de/HEIZFOLIE-90-MM-12V-CA-15/dp/B004W7H2YO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1474385153&sr=8-4&keywords=Heizfolie (for a heated lid(need to be controlled aswell via arduino)
  2. https://www.amazon.de/Peltierelement-12V-Temp-diff-72°C/dp/B004GRVTYE/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1474385055&sr=8-20&keywords=peltierelement or https://www.amazon.de/Heizpatrone-Hotend-Heater-Drucker-Extruder/dp/B00H7EEXZ0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1474389652&sr=8-4&keywords=heizpatrone (how do i controll this? I need to get it up to 109°C and down, if you have any other ideas you can say it too)
  3. Arduino
  4. PC Power Supply which i have left from my old PC (or would be a normal 12V Power adapter enough?)
  5. Maybe an small LCD but not necessary
  6. Alu Block :http://www.ebay.de/itm/Aluminium-Block-109x40x25-/222224900696?hash=item33bda2e258:g:nm0AAOSw9NdXuExc
  7. Case: 3D-Printed (Is PLA enogh or could it melt? Max temp is 110°C more i dont need)

I am sorry for my bad english, but i am not an native speaker.

Friendly greetings Losspost

What is a PCR?

Sry i forogot something: PCR Thermocyler Thermocycler – Wikipedia
english link: Thermal cycler - Wikipedia

its an machine which heats up to 100°C then go down to 42°C. It does this around 10- or more times. in ca. 2 ore more hours

Grumpy_Mike:
What is a PCR?

Polymerase Chain Reaction. DNA replication to allow a small sample to be replicated enough to have the minimum sample size for tests.

I guess you want the recants to go from 100C to 42C ?

A temperature sensor such as the waterproofed DS1820B in the reactants can feed back temperature to an arduino/MCU.

Maybe using drilled holes in the alu with heating ceramic elements could provide the temps you require?

The hear curve need to look like this.

I dont need the temp in the reactants. Beside the fact that the tubes are very small:
The Temp are just need to measured at the Surface of the Alu.

Are you an actual scientist?

If you do not hit the 80+ deg C...you wont be getting any van der waals breakage...meaning no PCR...

I think you DO want the temperature of the reactants.

A sensor in one or two of the sample tubes with water may be useful...

I am pretty new at this. If you think i need this i will do it: But i still dont know what kind of extension boards i need

None?

A DS1820B sensor in one of the tubes, ceramic heating rod/elements (I'd go 12V), some 12V High current MOSFETS and a beefy 12V power adapter...

These heat sensor are all to long they would never fit in one of this tubes?
I have seen some other PCR Projekts and no one of them used a direct temp sensor in the tubes. They always measured the temp at the alu. :Wild OpenPCR - Hackteria Wiki

//edit: Well am i to stupid or why cant i find any Keramic heat elements which are sold in germany? Just found US or China and i dont want to ship: Can i use one of these ? %product-title% kaufen
