Help creating an product for a performance

Hello, I realise what i am asking may not be realistic. I basically want to create some sort of project using arduino for a piece of music performance i am doing in three weeks. I would like something basic and easy, though effective and that is where i think the issue may be.
I have been looking into LED light effects, though i do not know if this would be easy to do.

At the moment I currently have a arduino mini, though i would rather stick with that board at the moment, i will buy different pasrts for it, but would prefer not to spend stupid amount on it.I am fairly new to arduino, so forgive me if i can't 100% understand some of the things people may say.

Though if any one could help that would be great.

What kind of performance? A msgeq7 and an arduino hooked up to some high power leds makes a wicked music /light show

Basically its a 20 minute performance, so far i am playing analogue instruments through ableton, adding effects and then trying to get resolume to work along side. I can basically do whatever i want, but as its my final degree performance i want it to be really techno-friendly and initiative. The idea of using the msgeq7 sounds good, though will that work with an uno board?

Yeah, and it takes only 2 digital pins and one analog pin to read the value,
the ic needs like 3 caps, and a couple resistors, but I've fit it all on a .5x.5" pcb before no problem
ebay has them pretty cheap in dip form, but if you want soic its like 7$ from a website
