Wanted to make an alarm clock and ordered a DS1307+. Only came with the small black chip itself. Do I need to order batteries and a board/module or whatever with it? Then just attach the chip onto it? So confused as to what's happening here.

You can use the DS 1307 without the battery. It will not keep time when without power to Vcc without the battery.
