Help I bought a ATMEGA328-PU

How do i burn the boot loader. It is connected to a arduino Mega with the configuration of:
UNO MEGA
GND GND
Vin 5V
RESET 53
11 51
12 50
13 52

I have uploaded the arduino ISP sketch to the arduino mega and then clicked burn bootloader and got this error:
avrdude: Expected signature for ATmega328P is 1E 95 0F
Double check chip, or use -F to override this check.
Error while burning bootloader.

What do i do?

If you have an ATmega328 instead of the more widely supported ATmega328P, you can use MiniCore:

Did you put your ATmega328 in the socket on the Uno?

Unless you have modified the ArduinoISP sketch, this is incorrect. You should connect pin 10 on the Mega to the reset pin on the Uno.

So the chip according to the packaging is ATMEGA328P-PU. I tried again putting the reset port on PIN 10 of the mega and got this error:

avrdude: Yikes! Invalid device signature.
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

Error while burning bootloader.

It is in the Uno chip slot

Please do this:

  • (In the Arduino IDE) File > Preferences
  • Check the checkbox next to “Show verbose output during: upload”.
  • Click the “OK” button.
  • Tools > Burn Bootloader
  • After the Burn Bootloader process fails, you’ll see a button on the right side of the orange bar: “Copy error messages”. Click that button.
  • In a forum reply here, click on the reply field.
  • Click the </> button on the forum toolbar. This will add the forum’s code tags markup to your reply.
  • Press “Ctrl + V”. This will paste the Burn Bootloader output between the code tags.

I took the board out of the arduino UNO and built it is own circuit. Very simple just the chip power and ground and two capacacitors in parrallel to the 16mz crystal i now get this error.

Error log in your post #4 definitely points to a problem with the connection. Configuration looks OK so you have to check your connection carefully again.

It is not clear to me what you exactly did. Parallel capacitors? What is about reset? Must be pulled up and for the reset signal it is good to go through 0.1uF cap. See original UNO schematics.
