I'm not sure the surface area of the led is relevant since the OP is not using that in his calculation. He's only interested in square mm of the target area so 5mw per mm squared is 5 W per meter squared .
So I haven't seen any dimensions for the target area yet. Are we talking about a little one foot square box or a room ?
