Hello everybody! I´m Fran, from Seville, Spain. I´m studying Telecommunications engineering and I´m starting in this wonderful world of microprocessors, electronics, robotics, etc.
The main problem that I have is that I can´t connect my new Arduino Uno (with ATMega 328) to my computers, I think that the problem is that I don´t have the drivers installed because when I want to upload a sketch the program say that it isn´t possible to connect. I have read in the manual that the problem could be that I have no choosen the correct serial port but the reason why I think that are the drivers is because I can´t choose other serial port.
I´m using windows 7 and the compilator is the lastest version that I found in Arduino´s website.

Yes, but the problem is that the instructions say that if the installation doesn´t start, I need to select in the control panel the folder where drivers are. When I choose the folder, the computer says that It is impossible to find those drivers for my Arduino board. :S

Hi everybody, my trouble is the same than Franxi, I'm using an Arduino ATMega2560 and WinXP. The version of Arduino software is 0019 because this version is needed by the libraries of my peripherals.
I've tryied following the steps of the guide, downloading the Virtual COM Port USB driver and all recomendations I've seen in the forum but there isn't anything to do, it doesn't work.
Following the instructions of the step to step installation guide, it seems there is a driver file inside de folder "arduino0019/drivers". My installation only contains another folder called FTDI USB Drivers (that doesn't run or it isn't recognized by my WinXP as a valid driver file)
I've tested the board in many computers: MAC computers runs OK with Arduino. Any WinXP have the same USB driver problem.
Have you any idea about how to shoot this trouble?

The driver install instructions did not work for me. I did everything there up to selecting the driver. I just highlighted the "drivers" folder and the install took it from there. That is V0022 tho.
Edit: Don't ask me to go back to that Windoze machine again today. It is Microsoft update day. Nine updates and twenty minutes later...
May I suggest a good version of Linux? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10.

Urimarti, si quieres probarlo con Ubuntu, descárgatelo en la web oficial de ubuntu que no es necesario más de 10 minutos y las instrucciones para instalar todo el software de Arduino las puedes gestionar directamente desde el terminal siguiendo esta serie de capturas de pantalla: http://www.pluggy.me.uk/arduino-ubuntu/
I recommend downloading the Arduino IDE (I think it is still V0022) from the Ubuntu repository first. Try the "blink" example just to check if all installed ok.. The repository has the updated/debugged gcc and library files.
Then you can download V1.0 from the Arduino site and it should work ok.
Add: I am surprised the WinXP driver update didn't work for you tho. Or didn't you try that?

I had a similar problem with Windows 7 and the latest Uno (Rev 3). The correct driver for that board is only supplied with the version 1.0 of the IDE, not earlier versions. Even if you are not planning to use the 1.0 IDE you need to get it for the drivers. There are additional files in the drivers folder, fairly obviously named.
Franxi gracias por el comentario pero en la empresa solo tenemos homologado Mac y WinXP, tengo ubuntu en casa y me parece un excelente sistema operativo. Mucha suerte.
Franxi recomended me Linux Ubuntu wich is an extraordinary operating system but in my company, homologations, are just for Mac and WinXP. I wish him good luck
