Help Needed Please! I'm New To Coding and am Trying to Figure Something Out!

Hi! I'm trying to create a project that I found online and am finding myself needing to add a piece of code to this project to make it work for what I am trying to do. This code is for an LCD game where the character jumps over obstacles whenever you press a button. The game is working great, however, when I add the bit of code I had help coming up with that would give an end screen after a certain score is achieved; I get an error that says the score is not declared in this scope. I included the full code below. Could someone who is smarter than me please help?

@gcjr The old code tag thing doesn't work here in the new world. In here you hit three (reverse?) accent marks at start & finish of your code blocks.

Did you declare the variable 'score' somewhere? I don't see it. It's hard to navigate your code because you have no indentation formatting at all. Use "auto format" in the IDE to do that.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll do that right away!

Ok! I used auto format and am editing it now. Sorry, I am really new to this. How would I go about defining this? I would guess to use the #define, but I don't know what code to put with that if any at all. Thanks for the help! :slight_smile:

  • not sure if its the formatting, but are you using back single quotes, , to surround chars? '.' and '\0'`

  • graphics needs to be defined as an array: "graphics [] = "

  • i found "attachInterrupt (0/PIN_BUTTON/, buttonPush" which i believe should be "attachInterrup (PIN_BUTTON,", no back slashes

  • believe is lcd, not LCD

  • lcd.clear(), not LCD. Clear, w/ a space after the "."

  • lcd.print, ditto

  • and as aarg suggested, "score" needs to be defined ... int score;

I'm making those changes now! Thank you very much! How would I go about defining this. Sorry, I'm really new to this.

int score;

Ok! Adding that now!

Ok! I made all of the above listed changes. The verifier found no bugs in the code, however when I reach the designated score; nothing happens. Any ideas?

You have to make an attempt to understand the code. If it's over your head, you'll have to spend a lot of time with simpler sketches until you catch on. It's not really entirely about being smart, although that certainly helps. It's about spending the time to learn. Also we have no idea what specific changes you made, so you need to re-post the revised sketch.

Ok. Thank you for your assistance and patience. I will look into some easier sketchs and close this page.
