Help please: <avrdude: syntax error> when trying to upload GRBL to Uno (CH340)

Hi all,
This is my first visit here and I'm hoping that this is the right place. I'm trying to upload GRBL (v1.1) to an Arduino Uno (CH340). The file compiles OK but I get this message when trying to upload it. I have spent a few hours digging through this forum and the web in general but can't find an answer. I'm really new to this and the intended project is a small CNC for my students to use.

"avrdude: syntax error at C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\hardware\tools\avr/etc/avrdude.conf:1080"

Try reinstalling the Arduino IDE.
