Help required on IR Sensors

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some help with the IR sensors I'm using for a project. (See link for IR sensor purchased: Infrared Sensor Module) Some problems I have encountered with the Sensor are as such:

  1. Maximum Detection range of the sensor is not consistent across sensors, and depends on individual sensors (even after adjusting potentiometers)

  2. IR sensor indicates "High", even though there is no obstacle anywhere near, especially if the sensor has been tuned beyond a certain detection range

I have attached some photos of my set-up in which I'm using the IR sensor. I'm just wondering if anyone may have any advice on how these problems can be overcome? Thank you!

What are your requirements ?
What you appear to have is a short range object detection type sensor.
If you want a long range IR sensor, you have to look at something like this: https://www.vishay.com/ir-receiver-modules/list/product-82476/
If you want a IR beam break sensor, you could get a range of up to 30 meters.
The longer range type sensors need a modulated IR beam (say 38kHz) for insensitivity to ambient light etc.
