HELP w/ controlling an LED matrix using buttons

Hello!

I’m brand new to Arduino and programming and I’m hoping to find some pointers for a project I’m working on.

My friend and I are building Daft Punk helmets for Halloween and we want to build and program our own custom LED displays. I already know how to build the LED matrices and everything, but we had the idea of using buttons to cue up different displays (each button corresponding with a different programmed display). However, I’ve never worked with complicated LEDs before so I’m not quite sure how to get started with that. (We want to wire the buttons into the fingers of our gloves and store all the boards and batteries and such in backpacks to keep everything organized, so making stuff compact isn’t an issue we’re worried about.)

So far I have an Arduino Uno R3 for each of us and the Arduino software installed. Does anyone know what other materials we’ll be needing (apart from stuff to build the matrices) and what a good approach to tackling this project would be? Any tips and guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum

What sort of LED matrix do you intend to use and how many LEDs will they have ?

Have you tried searching this forum for "daft punk" ?

Thank you!

I’m going to be assembling my own matrices using simple red LED bulbs (for mine) and green (for my friend’s). I thought about using RGBs, but I wanted to stick with the simple 1 anode 1 cathode bulbs to make the soldering easier. My matrix will be roughly 7x34 LEDs and my friend’s should more or less be the same.

And I skimmed it a bit earlier, haven’t done a thorough dive just yet.
