Help w/ soldering 9V battery wires? Where?

Hi everyone,

Perhaps I have no business being here and if that is the case, please accept my apologies. I'm just really confused and need some help.

I have a Royal ex315W Shipping scale I purchased years ago. A couple of years ago the wires came loose from the circuit board on the remote part of the scale that registers the weight. Since then I have been unable to use the scale. Can anyone help me figure out where to solder these wires on the circuit board.

  1. Are you certain that the 9v and Gnd wires are supposed to be soldered somewhere on that board, and not somewhere else in the unit - perhaps to the power supply or battery compartment? I don't see any obvious connection points on that board.

  2. Are there any clues, e.g. pads on the board (similar to the 3 at the top right that still have wires attached), that look as if they may have had a wire soldered to them in the past?

  3. A photo of the other side of the board might help.

  4. If they are supposed to go to that board, it's quite likely that one of the two 50v electrolytic capacitors in the picture is connected directly across the 9v. It's also very likely that gnd will be connected via the pcb to pin 7 of the CD4069 chip (that's the bottom right hand pin in your photo), and quite likely that 9v is connected to pin 14 (the top left hand pin).

Thank you, thank you, thank you! When I read # 1 it all made sense. I must have misplaced the battery connector and it has been so long since this broke that I had forgotten. Boy do I feel stupid to have missed such a simple solution.

I cut out an old 9 volt battery connector from an alarm clock and connected the wires to the scale wires and voila! I can use my scale again.
