Help with AC Current sensing

hi all
am new to arduino and i am working on a project to monitor the current passing through a 220 V AC line i used the ACS712 5A max and tested it with a 100W load connected it series with the load but the sensor reading does not change if i connect or disconnect the load so can anyone tell me if its possible to use this current sensor to find the ac current ? and if yes how it should be connected and what is the code to make this work

ps ( i tested it on dc and it worked as it should but on ac it always shows me 0 with and without the load )

sounds like it must be a dc sensor

Found a datasheet. Apparently it should do both.
