Help with cnc plotter build

Hey people. Im in the process of building a cnc plotter with an arduino nano. So the idea first seemed plausible as i had 2 dvd drives laying arround. Aaand also that i dont have enough funds to buy those nema 17 motors.

THE PROBLEEEM.

I am not happy with the surface area the stepper motor gives with their default construction. So i planned to attach a 4mm threaded rod with the stepper in a linear way ( -- --). But now it seemes that the steppers rod is not attached to the motor housing in a stable way.

So basically i need help to find a way to attach the rod to the stepper. Moreover, im unsure of the fact that if the angle of the rod has any effect on the steppers steps.
