Help With My Rover Project

Hi, A while back I put my Ipod touch on my rc truck, then used Skype to drive it around the yard. I got to thinking that a long range version would be pretty cool. My idea was to use the xbee extended range kit from DIY Drones here https://store.diydrones.com/Xbee_Telemetry_kit_p/kt-telemetry-xbee.htm and the Arduino Uno. Then use an analog video transmitter from a FPV airplane setup. I'm really new to Arduino and have hardly any programming knowledge. I was wondering if someone has already written code for this. I'm wanting to be able to controller the truck (that has 2 dc motors and 2 sevros) and maybe a rotating camera using the keyboard and the mouse. Then my next question is how much range will I get out of this setup. The Drones guys can get 3-5 miles, but since I'm on land with trees and things like that would it be possibly to get 1/2 - 1 mile. I haven't bought anything yet so If any of you have a better Idea for hardware let me know.

Here is the truck I already have and am planing to use Vehicles – Redcat Racing

Thanks,
Austin

any help

Your range will be in the order of 700 feet or less on the ground. This is due to the transmission lobe being squashed on one side by the ground. Those proclaimed 3-5 mile ranges are aloft and at altitudes 300 ft r more. Even aloft it is common to have your FPV signal go sour as you bank and take the TX and RX antennas off plane. Standard 49Mhz ground vehicle remotes(the good ones JR, Futaba, ect) will have you in control even after you have driven long out of sight.
