I'm attempting to build a vu meter I found in 30 evil projects by evil genius. I am confused as to which transistor and capacitor I need to use? My capacitor needs to be 0.1uF however what about transistor? Thanks for any help

Without the book it is hard to say. What is the transistor doing and how much current is it switching. Given the current we can recommend a transistor but at a guess I would say a 2N2222.
