I am looking to get my father some parts for Christmas. he is just learning arduino, but he's an Electrical engineer and has worked with microprocessors for 30 years on cars and other devices.
One of his projects he's planning is a water level sensor for the basement. We have an old house and half of the basement is dirt so it sometimes gets water in it when it rains hard or long.
I am looking at this 8 eTape Liquid Level Sensor + extras : ID 463 : $39.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits and seeing about hooking it up to an arduino or a raspberry pi, and a wifi shield, so that way it can email him and alert him when the water hits a certain point and if it starts to rise any further. The router would probably be 2.5 floors up as that is where we currently have it, in a older wooden home.
Any suggestions on which direction to go rasberry or arudino, and/or boards and shields to get and anything else that will help in this project?
Thank you for your help.
