There is a good chance your Arduino is NOT on COM 1
Open the IDE and select the correct COM port in there

and select the correct one.

Match that to what you see in DEVICE MANAGER for windows under com ports.
If you don't see it there you may require a driver.

If your board is a real genuine Arduino they are stored in the "drivers" folder of the Arduino installation.
If its a clone board then the CH340 or CH420 drivers can be found on google.
