Highest PWM frequency output for the Uno/Nano

Hello Nick,

Thanks for your examples. It was very usefull to get a nice high frequency signal. I'am using a 1MHz output from the timer for a LVDT sensor. For power saving reasons I would like to be able to switch the 1MHz signal on and off. What is the best way to do this and is it possible.
I was thinking about a sub loop that I call when needed. But I'am a little confused that it is put in the setup and switched on all the time. I have multiple sensors attached to a mini pro and want to read the sensors with different intervals. I have connected the mini pro 1MHz signal to a external amplifier for the coil. If it is switched on all the time it will use a lot of power. I need to read the LVDT sensor only once a week or month.
