HM-10 BLE 4.0 bluetooth module to android phone

A bit of background. I have a project that controls a LED strip. So far the 15 dancing / static settings work, The input from a microphone to "VU meter" works. The last part that is giving me fits.
I would like to use a Bluetooth module (HM-10 BLE) to receive music ie. YouTube to My Arduino for a VU meter display.
the Rub. on my samsung A35 shows my HM-10 BLE 4.0 Bluetooth Module as

000000 does not work or 123456

the app ble scan shows connected and the BT module is solid red.
Anyone have a thought?

try 123456789

tried the 1 to 0 and it looked like it was attempting to pair and then just gave up. The red led on the module is back to blinking red My phone shows this:

1 to 9

There are several HM-10s. I don't know if any will do what you want, but I'm pretty sure the cheap ones won't.

The cheap ones don't need pairing, the just work direct from an app.
Try that by Morisch.

Thanks for the input about the Morisch's Bluetooth terminal app. I loaded the app on my android phone and can connect by BTLE. However being just a terminal app will not send data from music on my phone to my arduino project. I have ordered a DSD TECH HC-06 Wireless Bluetooth Serial Transceiver. Will see what that does for me. I read someplace it does not support iOS.

IOS doesn't support HC-05 is a better way of putting it, and HC-05 is just a simple serial data device anyway. I'm afraid I don't know what you need, but it will be some sort of BLE device. HC-05 is "classic" Bluetooth.

Nick, thank you for the reply. I have tried 3 different HM-10 BLE modules and just plugged in a new original DSD TECH HC-06 Wireless Bluetooth Serial Transceiver. My phone sees it, requests a pass code enter 1234 and bingo it is paired. I have $50 worth of worthless HM-10 BLE modules for sale or trade. Unless you want to build / install an android app that turns on and off a LED. Do NOT consider HM-10 BLEs for an arduino project.

I'm surprised the HC-06 delivered for you, I thought you wanted to receive music. I'm very much in line with your essential philosophy though. HM-10s mostly offer nothing for android users, and are simply not worth the effort. They are really just for people who have inflicted themselves with IOS - and there are better options for them too.

I like your comment "have inflicted themselves with IOS" I guess to each their own
