HMC5883L Magnetometer sensor for detecting parked cars in parking lot?

i order this sensor a few days ago and while i wait for it to arrive i'd like to clarify some doubts i have about this little sensor.

Is this suitable for detecting a parked car?

Does it work fine even with heavy traffic nearby?

I have doubts because i've search all over the internet for real case application in a parking lot and i haven't found any.

any comments from any that has use this sensors will be very appreciated.

The magnetometer will easily detect the change in the Earth's magnetic field produced by nearby cars, up to 3 to 4 few meters distant. I use one as a gate alarm.

You will have to experiment to determine how well it will work in any particular environment.

jremington could you share your particular wiring and code for vehicle detection with the HMC5833L sensor? it is just to have a base on which i can start adjusting to my particular case. It is very dificult to find real implementation cases with this particular sensor on the internet...i have search a lot.

I used a different magnetometer, but it is more or less equivalent to the HMC5883L.

See this post for some code suggestions.
