Holy Crap Lightning Strike Damage!

About 3/4ths in after he's finished showing off the pictures, check out the cb radio and the damage caused by a strike, that's insane!

He needs a lightning rod so badly.

About 15 years ago there was a lightening strike about 100ft from my house. It damaged a neighbours house quite severely (it demolished his chimney and set fire to some of the interior) and damaged another neighbour's TV, presumably through the aerial. But what was more surprising was that it blew up my telephone and (dial-up) modem. My telephone service cable runs underground until it enters my house!

conduction of lightning strike through the ground is apparently one of the common ways to get hurt...

I've seen sections of submarine cable damaged by lightning strike.
never did figure that one out.

I work at a company that makes units that go into field and are routinely hit by lightning… and the damage can be pretty massive. Over the years we’ve reduced the impact to only breaking one board of the three in the unit, but it lifts trace off pcb, explodes MOVs and resistors, shatters LEDs and in general makes a big mess…

Most electronics are not designed to be hit “safely” by lightning…

I had a limb blown off a tree about 50' from my home office window one day while I was sitting there. No way to lightning rod away that sort of issue. Nature allows for supernovae, so I think we will just have to accept the danger of lightning too.
