Hooking sabertooth 2x5 to arduino through serial

I am attempting to connect a sabertooth 2x5 motor controller to an arduino through the packetized serial mode. Yet I am getting no response from the motors.

Here is the code i am attempting to use

#include <NewSoftSerial.h>
#define rxPin 2
#define txPin 3

int address = 128;
int check;
int function;
NewSoftSerial motorSerial(rxPin, txPin);

void setup()                    // run once, when the sketch starts
{

  motorSerial.begin(9600);

}

void loop()                     // run over and over again
{
  delay(2000);
  Serial.print(170, BYTE);// baud rate initializor
  delay(100);
  DriveForward1(128,34);

}
void driveForward(int speed)
{
  function = 0;
  action(speed);
}
void action(int speed)
{

  motorSerial.print(address, BYTE);
  motorSerial.print(function, BYTE);
  motorSerial.print(speed, BYTE);
  check = (address + function + speed) & 0b01111111;
  motorSerial.print(check, BYTE);
}
