I am looking for a way to recover hot water. I am using water too cool liquid with an immersion chiller. I would like to be able to capture the water in a tank to reuse to supply hot water to a tap.
The water initially comes out of the chiller quite hot and over time will cool and I ideally like to have a valve of some sort that will switch either when the ingress water becomes a certain temperature or when the water in the tank reaches either a certain temperature or becomes full.
I suppose a float valve like in a toilet cistern could be used somehow to open when a level is reached or perhaps a more simple overflow outlet could be used similar to the overflow on a sink.
I am not sure what I'd need to do to run the valve however. I suppose some sort of electronic valve and a temperature sensor may do it?
Any advice on how to approach this and/or some components that may work?
Keep things as simple as possible. In a tank the water temperature is at the highest at the surface and lovest at the bottom. That can be changed due to circulation. Connect a pipe at the bottom of the tank, direct it upwards. Cut that pipe at the hight of the water level You desire as maximum. No valve needed so faar.
In case the temperature of the tank water tends to go too high You might need a valve directing the water somewhere else then the tank,
Might pay to be aware if you are dealing with some type of air conditioning "chiller".
Thing called Legionnaires" disease could up and bite you.
Legionnaires' disease, also known as legionellosis, is a form of atypical pneumonia caused by any type of Legionella bacteria. ... The bacterium is found naturally in fresh water. It can contaminate hot water tanks, hot tubs, and cooling towers of large air conditioners.
