How can I connect multiple led matrices to an arduino mega?

Okay so I saw this instructable a while ago http://www.instructables.com/id/MX3-Professional-LED-Panel-1 and I started thinking about making a big LED panel myself.

To avoid all the soldering I'm thinking about going the easy way and just put multiple prebuilt LED matrices like these Medium 16x32 RGB LED matrix panel - 6mm Pitch : ID 420 : $24.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits together.

My problem is that I dont really know how to connect them to my arduino mega 2560 (I'm a bit of a newbie).

Adafruit made a tutorial on connecting more than one to an arduino but I intend to put 3 of them togeter creating a 48x36 led panel and as far as I can tell the tutorial only covers creating a long strip like 16x96.

So any ideas how to do something like that?
Thanks in advance.
