How can I get a reliable 5v output from nodemcu v1?

Im kinda new to circuits and stuff and I need some way get 5v power from nodemcu v1.0. I tried vin but it is not reliable and makes the servo motor spin. What should I do? DoI get an external thing to make it power 5v?

Hi, @lerera111
Welcome to the forum.

You should not rely on 5V from your controller, it uses a linear regulator on the board that is not very efficient or rated for much current.

What do you want to power with the 5V?
An external 5V would be preferable and saver to your controller.

Have you read the specs on the nodemcu V1?

Rule #1 An Arduino a Power Supply it is NOT! I would suggest getting a 12V power supply that is capable of a few amps and a few buck converters and of course a multimeter if you do not have one. You use the multimeter to set the output voltage of the buck converters. For not much more money, my preference, you can get SEPIC (Buck/Boost) converters. You can get all of these items for maybe $25 - $50 US including a inexpensive multimeter depending on where you purchase them. Places such as eBay have used ones at very reasonable prices. While you are at it look at a low cost logic analyzer. There are several 8 channel units rated at 24 mhz on line for less then $10, and they work nicely.
