how can i record something with an arduino

i have arduino uno and i need to know can i record.
do i need somthing.

The Arduino has no storage room for serious audio recording. You can check - http://shieldlist.org - for available audio shield that can do local recording...

What do you want to record? You can capture into an array or similar and store to SD card as an option.
Really depends on how big (#bytes total) a sample and how fast you need to record it.

Check this out.

This is an experiment to show how some realtime audio processing can be done with the Arduino. The first set of examples alter an incoming audio signal and put it back to an audio output. We achieve effects like Reverb, Phasor, Flanger or Ringmodulator. The second set of examples are outputting computed waveforms like Sinewave, Bell and Xylophone sounds.
