I bought my "Zero Pro" now called "M0 Pro" from Cool Components in the UK.
As far as I can see, all non US distributors sell the M0 Pro and the Arduino "US Store" will not sell a ZERO to the UK. This site only supports the ZERO with its v1.6.5 software.
The v1.7.6 software only supports the M0 Pro. How crazy is this?
I used the v1.6.5 "burn bootloader" to run a M0 Pro on v1.6.5 (with a modified "variant.cpp")
And the v1.7.6 "burn bootloader" to run the M0 Pro on v1.7.6
The world would be a better place if we could just use v1.6.5 in every country.
I suspect that the whole Sales side of Arduino.cc is collapsing. I know that there are cheap Chinese clones everywhere, but there will still be a market for "genuine" or new designs.
It appears that arduino.cc are good with the software but do not manufacture.
And arduino.org are good with manufacture but have little experience with software.
The ideal arrangement is for the two warring factions to kiss and make up. Otherwise both sides will lose jobs.
Meanwhile you have separate Zero and M0 with incompatible hardware and software.
Incidentally, you only need two entries in "boards.txt" with variants/arduino_zero and variants/arduino_m0
I was hoping that you had found a company in Europe that actually sells ZERO boards. Or a US company that would sell a ZERO board to the UK or Germany. Your other post just lists companies that do NOT sell these boards.
Having said that, the M0 Pro board is stocked by RS and they have plenty of them. Apart from lack of "official" v1.6.5 support, the hardware should do everything that a Zero can do.
for Europe (unfortunately) they have not finished this process yet, but very soon they will announce a production partner for Europe as well, I think.
(maybe even a German manufacturer)
I imagine that I noticed two signs that this will happen very soon:
the us-store does not ship to Europe any more
in Europe the price for the Zero Pro (arduino.org) has fallen down to 34,00 EUR
I presume that you could make as big a collective order as you like.
When the US company realises that it is going to Europe, they will refuse to supply you. Of course you might find a cooperative US citizen that makes a bulk order. You would need to trust the citizen and pray that the company does not smell a rat.
It seems simpler to just upload the Zero bootloader onto the M0 Pro. And add a "M0 Pro" to boards.txt with an appropriate m0_pro/variant.cpp
Some Italian citizen might be able to explain why perfectly normal human beings are reverting to kindergarten behaviour.
Retired product :
Perhaps Limor "Ladyada" Fried has the answer.
She is a business woman.
She invested in production lines only if she is ensured to regain its investment.
Ie only if product sales will be sufficient.
If not she cut into diseased branches.
It will get used to see in her the new boss of Arduino-USA products line.
By making war, the founders ( Banzi, Martino) lost.
Now decision will be taken by the industry: Limor Fries, Musso and perhaps Seedstudio.
It's not a Zero, but if you'd be satisfied with a Zero compatible and don't care about the form factor being the same as the UNO, and don't need debug capabilities, the final prototype of my Neutrino will be arriving Monday and I will be placing the order for the fist batch of boards shortly thereafter. And I will ship to Europe.
if you don't need debugging you can just buy an "Arduino M0" (from arduino.org) [for around EUR 20.--]

(just flash the Samba-Bootloader first then...)
