How do I build a robotic arm?

Hi everyone.
So, as a project I am making a robotic arm that can lift a partially filled coffee pot. I was wondering if someone could give me an overview on the steps I need to take in order to complete this? i.e What electronics do I need (drivers, steppers, transistors etc..)? What designing software do I need?
I someone could help that would be awesome!

I would say a lot depends on your skill set. Building a robot arm from scratch (did you mean that?) involves knowledge of materials, mechanical design, electrical design, mechanics etc before you even get to the coding part.

The heavier the object you want to pick up, the more challenging it will be.

Have you thought of using one of the kits that are available that have taken care of the design of the arm leaving you to work on the software side.

Sorry if that sounds a bit negative but it's not a simple task. Others may offer their opinions too.

Comments unnecessary. You cover it well.

Just keep in mind mass speed, overshoot and power supply.

I you don’t handle these well, you mat have stale coffee, or splashes on the walls.

Remember the mass will change as the coffee pours out.

I understand where you are coming from, though, buying a kit takes away from the learning experience, which is the purpose for making the arm.

very true point thank you

ok.

No it doesn't.
You will be up to your armpits in things you don't understand as it is with a kit.

I keep hearing this so-called " learning experience" crap applied to just about anything and everthing and it's quite simply a statement made by those with zero understanding.

sorry sir

Since you appear to be starting from zero, a kit would at least give you an arm that has a chance of working, and you would probably learn something.

The kit will relieve you of designing and building the supporting structure for your project, as well as the bearings and other weight supporting pieces.
