How do I connect 2 boards together?

Hi all,
I have done a little bit of research and some people recommend using the UART port on the Edison expansion board. Apparently, the TX(Edison) goes to RX(Arduino) and the RX(Edison) goes to TX(Arduino).

Has anyone done this before?
