How do I plug this thing into my breadboard?

Hi all,

I'm new to Arduino and pretty much a noob in electronics. So I got a Uno, a breadboard and some gear to start experimenting. I'm enjoying it so far and made some sensors work. Happy to get started and maybe even contribute eventually! :slight_smile:

Anyway, I have got a 433Mhz radio circuit (it's called 3DR I think). And when I bought it it came with this weird cable like the thing on the left here:

except the end bit was super small (0.5mm across) and the cable had the same kind of thing on both ends, one with 4 pins (which fits nicely into the radio) and the other with 5 pins. My question is, how do I connect that 5-pin end to my breadboard? The thing is microscopic and none of the wire I have will fit into it ("obviously I'm doing this wrong" - me while randomly poking the thing with wires).

At the moment what I did was cut off the end bit and strip off the plastic at the end of the wires and connect them to my breadboard, and it works, but it's really flimsy as the wires easily come loose. Does anyone know what adapter I would use to convert that into 4 pins I can plug into my breadboard (or at least 4 wires)? I searched but there are so many types of cable and I have no idea what the one I'm looking for is called :frowning:

BTW I don't have soldering equipment yet, but having looked around it seems to be a must-have for Arduino work.

Breadboards are very unreliable, you can not use them for much. You are much better off soldering stuff onto strip board. Even so some connectors are too small for the 0.1" pitch of strip board. You can work wonders with a scalpel but sometimes to use sockets that small you have to resort to having a PCB made.

Breakout board with the right socket on it and 0.1" spaced header pins?

You have stripped the cable end to solder, now get some header pin stock

and solder the wires to a piece of it.
