hey I am new to this whole thing but I want to make a radio receiver but do not know how and do not want to waste money so I was wondering how would I go about this I also want it to convert images from the satellites like the noaa's and other weather satellites as my goal is to make a full weather station from scratch any help would be much appreciated
First decide on the frequency you want to receive.
What is your experience level?
As a child, I started with a crystal radio, which worked well. Make one from scraps following this tutorial:
Unless you are experienced in Rf etc and have the tools in your kit I highly recommend you purchase a inexpensive receiver and modify that. Be sure to get one with a schematic.
+1 on the crystal radio, energy effeceint too .........
At these times I have used an OA81 germanium diode.
This looks like something you could do

The ARRL Handbook is indeed a great resource to begin with, as it covers the foundational theory you'll need. After you've familiarized yourself with the basics, you might also consider exploring practical resources specific to Arduino and radio technology.
