How should I approach a frequency controller

I have made some sound reactive led lights. The problem is that i get treble, mid, & bass sounds that are displayed so it doesnt look like it is moving to the beat. I would like to isalate the bass sound. I am inputting my audio source on a0 and when i plot it it reaches a max of about 450. That is about 2.205 max volts. I am using google play music (i have a subscription) so i cant use one on my phone and dont have the parts to make it from hardware. I attempted the FFT formula route but I am unsure if it is the right fit. I am using a arduino nano but have a arduino uno at my disposal that would require a bit of tinkering to make it suited for this build. What I want to do is something like :if(frequency <= 700) then put my code in for the project. Im unsure if this is feasible due to the fact that i wouldnt be getting rid of the other sounds so they would bring up the frequency. How should i approach this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This chip splits the audio into 7 bands.

I would like to do it with software if possible but i will look into it if i cant figure anything else out. Thank you,

I would like to do it with software . . .

Not with Arduino.

Bass only.
A second order lowpass filter between audio and analogue in with a low-ish corner frequency could work.
Post diagram and code showing how you detect music now.
