How to add MCU trigger along side the button on this latching 555 timer circuit with a transistor

Hello,

This is a noob question but how would I replace the pushbutton on this circuit with a transistor like a BJT or MOSFET. Long strong short, I want the ability to trigger the latching circuit with an Arduino remotely and but also run independent of a MCU to reduce failure and be triggered by a liquid float switch (the button in this image)

Would it just be as simple as running the transistor in parallel to the button?

yes I would still like to use the button/float switch. My main reason for posting this is I'm just trying to get my head around how it would work and trying to visualise it in a circuit diagram. I played around with a simulator and it couldn't get it working and got confused.

As theres a signal coming off pin 3 when ON I was unsure of how to orientate the transistor as it looked like the current flow flips depending on the state.

Also would there be a preference to using a BJT or a MOSFET in this situation. I have more MOSFET's available but unsure if I needed one or the other.
