How to check if Arduino quadcopter needs certain discharge rate capacity

I build an arduino quadX and I need a 3.7v lipo battery to power the drone. How do I know if my drone needs certain discharge rate capacity, e.g. 25C, etc?

Here, I use 8520 coreless dc motor with diy brushed ESC.

My lipo battery now is 3.7v 500mAh. There's no sign of the discharge rate on the battery. The battery only spent 5 minutes and ran out.

Some says that a smaller drone needs more discharge rate.

Surely, you know how much current your drone draws?

If not, measure it!

Then the discharge rate comes directly from that:

C represents the capacity of the battery in mAh

So, for your 500mAh battery:

  • a discharge rate of 1C is 1x500mA = 500mA;
  • a discharge rate of 2C is 2x500mA = 1000mA (aka 1A);
  • a discharge rate of 25C is 25x500mA = 12500mA (aka 12.5A);
  • etc, etc ...
