How to check if this is a repairable issue vs fried Nano

Beginner hobbyist here. One of my Nanos got fried (literally- I spotted the smoke and killed the power but unfortunately late). I'm assuming it was due to some shorting of the power supply since I was a little careless with the connector.

But now this has happened with two other Nanos. I highly doubt it was due to the above electrical issue. This is the error message I get. My question is, is there a way to determine whether this is a fixable issue vs this is a destroyed Nano?
This may or may not be relevant but I have been testing some EEPROM read/writes on the 2 Nanos that stopped working. They were operating fine for the past few days. I don't know if the software EEPROM operations may have contributed to the destruction.

This report would have more information with
"Show verbose output during compilation"
option enabled in File -> Preferences.

How is everything connected? Could you post a diagram or picture?
Check your wiring, cables, check for shorts (bad cable?)
is anything back-feeding voltage with the Nano's power off?
