How to command Arduino via terminal (mac osx)

Hi everyone !

I presently have my Arduino Duemilanove board able to communicate with my computer (when I tip something in the terminal, the Tx LED blink) but I'd like to know how to change the state of the digital I/O.

Which commands have I to send to the Arduino ?

Thanks for advance :;

There are two ways to go about making the Arduino react to serial input. One is two use the Firmata library:

http://arduino.cc/en/Reference/Firmata

The other is to develop your own protocol. Type something like "Pin 8 HIGH" in the serial monitor, and then create a sketch that reads the serial data, parses it, and reacts accordingly.

Which method works best depends upon what you are trying to command the Arduino to do, and your skill as a programmer.

Thank you for this advice :wink:
