how to commercialize an arduino product....realize this has probably been asked

Hi,

I apologize that this has most likely already been asked but I'm a noobie here.....

How do you commercialize an arduino product and by that I'm looking to use an arduino board for proof of concept and then license the idea to a third party to manufacture it. I'm just looking to know the language necessary to get over this hurdle and generally the steps involved as well so as to not look like an idiot when I'm talking to the third party.

That is a very good question and one of my former customers did exactly that.

He had an engineer build and program his product using an Arduino nano. When it worked the way he wanted, he had us build 30, as I recall. He sold them to anxiously waiting customers with the requirement they report back any problems and recommendations.

Then after about a year, he had a custom unit designed and built that was nothing like his prototypes, but had the same functions, plus changes from the original users. Never had any more prototype built and is selling lots of the custom devices.
