That was a mistake. The 5V version should have been selected. The 12V version will work with 5V but the led will be somewhat dim.
You should test these buttons by wiring the COM and LED- buttons to ground, and the NO and LED+ to 2 different Arduino pins.
When you build the button box, you will need to wire the buttons as a matrix, as shown in the diagram.
Will all the buttons on your button box be momentary? Or will some be latching or toggle switches? If using any latching or toggle switches, you will need to wire a small diode (like 1n4148) in series with every button and switch.
